Typical input Elmer file

The Elmer Models Manual and the Elmer Solver Manual are the primary sources of informations for learning how to write an Elmer Multiphysycs input file.
The typical structure of an input file is covered in chapter 2 of the latter manual.
Every input file contains a number of blocks:

  • Header

  • Simulation

  • Constants

  • Body n

  • Material n

  • Body Force n

  • Equation n

  • Solver n

  • Boundary Condition n

  • Initial Condition n

  • Component n

Below a complete input file for the termo-fluidynamics Rayleigh-Benard convective pattern:

The latter is the simulation input file, but you also need the mesh in order to run the analysis. The Elmer project provides a simple grid generator called ElmerGrid.
For the Rayleigh-Bénard simulation, the input file that creates the mesh is:
